Field Trip

Hard to believe our field trip is just 4 days away!  Hooray!  Here are our groups for once we arrive at Stuckmeyer's Pumpkin Patch. * Indicates Parent Chaperon for the group*

Please remember to be on time to school.  Buses will depart promptly at 9:15 and return to school by 12:45.  We will be eating lunch at the farm so please pack your child a paperbag lunch with his/her name clearly marked on the outside.  Please also remember to include a snack for once we arrive back to school, your child will be very hungry by the afternoon.  Last thing, if you are planning to drive separately please let me know so that I can inform the office.  Your child must ride with us to the pumpkin patch but may leave from the farm with you if you would like the option.  A chaperone may only transport their child even with approval from another classmates parents.  Thanks so much and see you Friday for our very field trip!

Birthday Boy!

Happy birthday to our sweet Dean.  The kids had a great time celebrating today and enjoyed sing, dancing, and munching.  Happy Birthday Dean Machine!

Multiple Mystery Readers!

Today was a day full of visitors for the kids!  My Joshua started the day off by visiting during our morning meeting--he was excited to see kindergarten kids in action and was at Barretts for the tour "your elementary school day".  After Joshua's visit we had a visit from Etta's super sweet Grandma!  She flew all the way from Texas this morning to share two stories with our class..are we lucky duckies or what?!  Then later this afternoon we received three clues about our snack time mystery reader.  He loves guitar, has family from Mexico visiting today, and has a friend Buffalo.  The kids went crazy for Ava's Daddy's character voices in "Pink or Treat-Pink-a-lious" and "Aurthur goes Green".  Thank you to all our wonderful mystery readers...you make reading memorable and engaging!  We can't wait to be readers like you!

SLC days

Red Ribbon Week for drug prevention and awareness will be coming up 10/24-10/30.  Please mark your calendar so your child can dress in spirit for the Red Ribbon Week Festivities!

Authentic Author Experience

Next Wednesday, October 16th, author Barney Saltzberg will be visiting our k-2 students.  He is promoting his new book, A Little Bit of Oomph!.  If you are interested in purchasing an autographed copy of the book, I have placed some book order forms in your child's folder.

Relax and Refuel/Acadmeic Lab

Many families have been asking me about how the children use their time during relax and refuel now that  the children have chosen not to rest.  During this time the teachers from all 3 classrooms have enrichment groups comprised of kindergarten children needing additional support or challenge material.  These groups (that meet with the teachers from each class) change regularly and focus on a variety of needs spanning all subject areas.  We try to reach the most pressing issues for our students first and then work to make sure challenge is provided to any students needed supplemental instruction.

While we are meeting with small groups of children the others students in the room have the opportunity to choose from a variety of academic centered choice activities.  Here are just a few of the activities the children are choosing to extend their learning during our quiet ac. lab block.

Magnificent Mystery Mouse!

We had the mother (or grandmother, rather) of all mystery readers visit our class today.  Lily's grandmother graced us with a magical visit from the beloved characters from "If You Give A Mouse A Cookie" and "If You Take A Mouse To School".  The children loved the circle books and the circular treat they got to enjoy (Oreo).  Lily's grandmother even signed the books and gifted them to our classroom library!  We were one happy group of mice lovin' readers!  Check out our joke....what's a mystery mouses' favorite snack....CHEESE!
