Class Meeting

Our class meeting today was such a wonderful example of student led learning and exploration.  We definitely have capable, curious, and confident heroes. In addition to several lost teeth and excitement over upcoming weekend events we explored a bone found in someone's garden and did some research on what body part and animal it might be.  We also had a student who explained how he turned a flower green by exploring with food coloring and water.  I couldn't be more proud or inspired by these little scientists!

Crazy Awesome Computer Kids!

The heroes are all in the zone this week with the beginning stages of their non-fiction publishing.  Most of the children are several pages into their digital draft and are gaining confidence with the pixie publishing program.  Next week we will finish our books on the computers and attempt to revise and edit using the program.  Children who finish early will begin a second non-fiction book or how-to book.  I can not wait to have the children share these amazing books with you. They have been working so hard and are really become experts in their topics!

Mirror, Mirror

We had the chance to watch the 4th grade musical today and the children did a beautiful job as audience members.  Many of our friends and siblings amazed us with this backwards and forwards musical masterpiece.  Be sure to come tonight to enjoy for yourself!  Go Bobcats!

Purple Cow

Tomorrow we will be having a special visitor in the afternoon.  Our own resident author, Mrs. Seal, will be reading a how-to book she wrote about "Purple Cows".  We will be talking about similarities and differences between non-fiction books and how-to books.  The children will have the opportunity to create how-to books after they publish their non-fiction.  Please allow your child to wear purple or white tomorrow.  Be on the look out for some fun pictures and great how-to directions from your kindergarten child!

Just a quick reminder for this week..
Tuesday-we will start collecting items for 2nd grades APA project.  The children are invited to bring in gentle used or new pet items (dog toys, treats, beds, litter boxes, or cleaning supplies).  These items will be collected through the end of April at the entrance to Barretts,
Wednesday-I am our for a leadership training day--Mrs. Davis will be our sub (we have library)
Thursday-no learning centers, we will have the 4th grade musical at 2:45
Friday-dress in purple day (special k. tradition) Purple Cows with Mrs. Seal

Happy Day!

Happy decades day!  We had some great spirit today in the hero's room...

Also a very happy birthday to Miss Olivia.  We had a great time celebrating six with some "ice cream and  cake" and a cupcake too!
