Sky Watchers

We did a wonderful job doing our science journals today (LW). We worked hard to look at the sun and draw it in our journals (BT). We tried hard to draw quickly because of the wind (FM). Then we went inside and colored (ER). We looked at the sun's place in the sky (BS). We made really detailed pictures (AC).We tried our best because the sun was really shiny (LA). We looked at the sun but it was too bright (EC).

The recap above is written by the students to explain what we did today in science. We are learning about the sky and did our first sky observation today to look at the sun's placement and how it changes during the day. Check back tomorrow to see what the students notice when we observe at a different time of day.

On March 28th we will have the chance to skype with one of my favorite illustrators, David Catrow. We have been reading many of his very silly books together but be sure to check some out from the library your next trip. The more familiar the children are with his books the more meaningful our exchange will be come March.

Knowing Non-Fiction

These last two weeks we have been exploring non-fiction text features. The children have become experts at identifying parts that are common in non-fiction books. Be sure to ask your child about what features they notice the next time you read together!
