Last day laughs

We have had a busy and productive last day before our winter break.  The kids started the day by opening their gifts and enjoying a candy cane before jumping into writing their letters to Bob the bobcat (our school mascot).  This week we learned about some of Bob's favorite things and used them to construct a conversational letter.  The kids did a great job and we already have mail from Bob waiting for us.  The heroes suggested we invite him for lunch one day and have a "mac-n-cheese" party since it seems to be Bob and the kids personal favorite meal.  After our letters we finished our new years goals and hung them on the Barretts' snowman.  They have some lofty goals so be sure to check with your child to see what he/she is hoping to achieve this coming year.  Finally, we spent some time comparing/contrasting the Polar Express movie and book and doing a retell using train booklets.  They have been busy and having a blast.  Hard to believe it is nearly the new year...they are looking more and more like big kids every day!

Happy Holidays!

Thank you so much to all my amazing families for putting on yet another amazing class party.  The children had so much fun and are full of festive cheer!  Thank you also for the incredibly generous gift.  You showered me with "a few of my favorite things" and I am overwhelmed with gratitude and appreciation.  I truly am the luckiest teacher to have each of you and your children in my life this year.  Wishing you a very happy and restful holiday season and festive start to 2014!

Perfectly Polar

To celebrate the magic of the winter season and our upcoming holiday we watched the polar express and had "chilly" chocolate and cookies (most kindergarten kids don't love true "hot" chocolate so we have our own spin on the tradition).  We had a great day of fun and tomorrow will do our compare/contrast chart of the movie and the book and a sequencing story about our magical movie.
