Brand new brain teasers...

Today the heroes had to break out their super hero thinking skills to tackle some new learning.  We expanded our current math unit and looked at subtraction for the first time.  The children did a beautiful job talking about their thinking and are now able to communicate the difference between addition (plus signs) and subtraction (minus signs).  The children learned that subtractions means the difference between numbers OR taking a value away.  We had a little help from a pirate friend of mine...you can thank him if your child is humming his catchy tune tonight.  They love him!  Click on the link below to see why...

In science today we began exploring our new unit, "Pushes and Pulls".  The children had a chance to explore our three EQs : what causes objects to move, what are different ways objects move, and how do you describe an objects position relative to another object?  We will be diving into these the next few weeks.  For today, they created their own force and motion anchor chart to describe the simple force of push and pull in the world around them.  They loved to play the a guessing game, which force is with me? (Push or Pull).  Have some fun acting these forces out with them at home this week for homework..."may the force be with you" as you learn together.
