Writing Rubrics & Goal Setting

I communicated with you during our curriculum night (I know...think WAY back to August) that my professional goal for this year would be specifically working with goal setting in writing.  As part of my personal professional development I have been reading books, working with our buildings literacy expert, and teaching writing differently than I have in the past with a very reflective lens.  To help communicate your child's writing goals and progress with you we will begin our goal setting in writing using a set of three rubrics (one focused on readable pictures, one on readable words, the last on the conventions of writing).  Your child will have the choice (starting next week) of which he/she will choose to work of off with a long range goal of having children able to work on multiple rubrics during a week's writing time.  This week we are all working off the same rubric for teaching purposes.  For now, please as your child which goal they are working on in writing, they should be able to communicate that with you as they physically marked their rubrics today and used an over sized poster to illustrate to the class their focus.  We will glue personal rubrics into our goal notebooks each Friday at the conclusion of writing time so you will be able to see what they did during the previous week(s).
